Forums » Prof-UIS General Discussion » ProfStudio v2.84: demo application freezes after undocking a floating window Collapse All

Dear ProfUIS-Team,

on one of our customer’s system (WinXP, SP3, 32bit) there happens a complete freeze with our application (based on v2.82) when undocking a floating window. The issue is reproducable even with your demo application "ProfStudio" (v2.84).

Do you have any idea what might be the reason for such kind of strange behaviour?

Kind regards,

Martin

Please let us know whether your Acrobat Distiller printer is local or remote and whether the problem still persists if you install some local printer of any kind and make it default?

The Acrobat Distiller runs local. Unfortunately it is too difficult for our customer to install any other local default printer due to specific system administration rules.

Probably it might be helpful to give you some more details. There are two main scenarios with different behaviour under various circumstances.

A. Our application (with some customized ProfUIS v.2.82, e.g. no bar state serialization in registry but in file)

Scenario a)

1. activate some resizable bar via context menu

    => window pops up in an undocked state

2. close the window using the x

    => hanging up (freeze) with CPU 100%

Scenario b)

1. activate some resizable bar via context menu

    => window pops up in an undocked state

2. dock the window

3. normal work is now possible

B. ProfStudio (your latest version)

Scenario a)

1. Menu "View"->"Other Windows"->"Object Browser"

    => window pops up in a docked state

2. undock window

    => moving it only little away from the docking position

    => hang up (freeze)

Scenario b)

1. kill and restart ProfStudio

    => "Object Browser" initially pops up at last (serialized) position being read from registry

2. anything will fail: closing via x, moving ...

Hope that these details will be helpful.

Is it possible to visit your desktop remotely and debug this issue?

Technical Support May 20, 2009 - 2:30 PM

We would like to ask you to run the following version of the ProfStudio sample application and tell us whether it’s slow when undocking some resizable bar:

http://www.prof-uis.com/download/forums/tmp/ProfStudio285.zip

If it’s slow, then please check which of printers is default on your computer. If the default printer is somewhere on the network, then please choose some local printer as default and try to run the ProfStudio sample application again and tell us whether it’s still slow undocking some resizable bar?

Oliver Rau May 25, 2009 - 2:23 AM

We have just tried to run your most recent ProfStudio demo - thanks for this - with Acrobat Distiller as the default printer, but could not notice any improvement compared to the previous behaviour, i.e. complete freeze of whole application.

Any further suggestions?
