Visually speaking, Windows 10 isn’t that different from Windows 8 -- but for some reason, Microsoft elected to make the new operating system’s title bars white, with no option to change them.

Thankfully, that option has been restored as part of the Windows 10 update that’s rolling out today. Ready to bring a little color back to your windows? Here’s how:

Step 1: Click Start, then Settings.

Step 2: Click Personalization, then Colors.

Step 3: Turn on the setting for "Show color on Start, taskbar, action center, and title bar."

Step 4: By default, Windows will "automatically pick an accent color from your background." If you want to choose the color, set the option to off and then make your color selection.

To see the skinned window non-client areas (caption and borders), you should use the CExtNCW-based C++ classes implementing desktop windows and select a paint manager which supports non-client area skinning (0ffice 2007 or 2010). The non-client area skin is based on the bitmaps rather than on on solid color fills. It’s possible to re-code the non-client area from scratch but not to change the existing bitmap colors.
