Dec 11, 2004 /  Prof-UIS becomes an ideal GUI kit for MFC developers!
In this version, the authors of Prof-UIS put emphasis more on the improvements relating to the general look and feel of the interface rather than on adding completely new GUI components. These improvements are almost in every aspect of interaction between the user and the application from enhanced drawing to much better performance in dragging and docking features. New version also features a whole new approach to loading language-dependent resources of any type. A new component called the Resource Manager supports on-the-fly switching of the resource languages supported in Prof-UIS or your application. What is most remarkable about this feature is that it does not require you to supply a bunch of resource dll files to your users. Among the new features are draggable tabs for the tab control and tab page container, a custom docking outline, and the ability to customize the Office 2003 theme. The latter, for example, allows your application to imitate Windows XP themes on OSes other than Windows XP. Check out the full list of features, improvements, and bug fixes in the version history section of the product’s website at http://www.prof-uis.com/VersionHistory.aspx! Prof-UIS is a royalty-free library so its binaries can be distributed without any additional fees. Prof-UIS Freeware is a free-for-non-commercial use version of Prof-UIS. Both the commercial and freeware versions come with full source code. Foss Software has been successfully developing and offering custom software solutions and GUI libraries since 2000.
Oct 18, 2004 /  New GUI features and OLE Automation Support make Prof-UIS even more attractive for Visual C++ developers!

SALEM, New Hampshire -- October 18, 2004 -- Foss Software, an industry leader in developing graphical user interface components for Windows applications, announced the release of version 2.26 of Professional User Interface Suite (http://www.prof-uis.com), which is a popular MFC extension library for creating newest GUI in the Visual Studio 6.0/7.0/7.1/8.0 environment.

The new version introduces two major features: OLE Automation support and Visual Studio 2005-like user interface. Automation is implemented as a COM library called ProfAuto. It allows the users to use scripting languages like VBScript for customizing and controlling menus, toolbars, and status bars. All properties and methods of ProfAuto are documented which, together with a how-to article titled "Scripting Support in Prof-UIS Applications" and ActiveScripts sample application, should help the developers easily use this feature in their products.

The second major enhancement enables the developers to use the GUI-related features presented in Visual Studio 2005 (aka "Whidbey") including the new look and feel and docking markers. A completely renewed docking algorithm now eliminates flickering and makes detaching and docking tabs more perfect. The library and samples are ready to be used with Visual Studio 2005.

Prof-UIS 2.26 Freeware is a free-for-non-commercial version of Prof-UIS. It is also compatible with Visual Studio 2005 and supports its GUI style and docking markers but it does not support docking tabs.

Prof-UIS is a royalty-free library so its binaries can be distributed without any additional fees. To make the library more available for software developer teams, FOSS Software changed its sales policy: Developer team licenses are now offered with significant discounts.

SALEM, New Hampshire -- June 22, 2004 -- Foss Software, an industry leader in developing graphical user interface components for Windows applications, announced today the release of version 2.25 of Professional User Interface Suite (http://www.prof-uis.com), which  is a popular MFC extension library for creating newest GUI in the Visual Studio 6.0/7.0/7.1 environment.

Among the new features are a date picker control which looks like and has the same features as the mini-calendar (the Date Navigator) in Microsoft Outlook, a dialog for managing open child windows in MDI applications (the "Windows:" dialog), and a set of enhanced standard controls: check box, radio button, group box, and static text. The latter are 100% consistent with the Office 2003 theme, which uses a gradient background. The new check box and radio button are based on bitmaps, which allows the developers to easily provide these controls with any look and feel. The existing and new features are illustrated in the Prof-UIS Controls sample, which has been completely renewed.

The compiled HTML help on Prof-UIS is now provided with indexes and better consistent with the MSDN MFC documentation style. The new article "Prof-UIS Grid Brief Overview" outlines the general architecture of the control and contains a list of FAQ about the grid.

Feb 29, 2004 /  Make your GUI more efficient and better looking with Prof-UIS 2.24!
SALEM, New Hampshire -- February 27, 2004 -- Foss Software, an industry leader in developing graphical user interface components, today announced the release and immediate availability of Prof-UIS 2.24. Prof-UIS (http://www.prof-uis.com) is a popular MFC extension library for creating newest GUI in the Visual Studio 6.0/7.0/7.1 environment. Following the tradition of previous versions, the new release contains not only bug fixes and minor improvements, but completely new features and components. Such practice aims to give the programmers more feature-enhanced GUI development tools maximum consistent with the general style of Prof-UIS. According to Vladimir Nekrachevitch, CEO of Foss Software, "The most significant addition is a universal grid control, which we hope will be helpful to the library users. This grid is not based on any other similar component that can be found in the Internet. It implements such powerful techniques as block-based allocation memory management and accessing data through a separate data-provider component. The grid features various types of scrolling and selection, virtual data mapping and handling data of unknown size." With a new flat tab control introduced in Prof-UIS 2.24, the developers now may create tabs that look like the sheet tabs in Microsoft Excel or the Output pane tabs in Microsoft Visual Studio 6. They may even give their tabs any customized look and feel. Tabs with their associated controls of any kind including trees, lists, edits, and dialogs, are grouped in a tab container, which is a handy and efficient way of presenting data. A new slider/scrolling button is designed to be used in Prof-UIS toolbars. It allows you to implement more modern-looking sliders and scroll bars consistent with the GUI themes available in Prof-UIS– Microsoft Office 2000, XP, and 2003. The Prof-UIS status bar control now features "friendliness" to controls of almost any kind, which can be easily inserted/removed into/from its panes on-the-fly, better consistency with the Prof-UIS themes and flicker-free rendering not available in the standard status bar. New version comes with five new samples provided with full source code, which not only demonstrates how the applications developed with Prof-UIS may look like, but shows how to implement the features. "Getting started with Prof-UIS" is a new article for those who want to use Prof-UIS to improve the GUI of their applications created with the plain MFC. The article puts emphasis on difference issues rather then what the libraries have in common. Availability of the freeware version of Prof-UIS makes the library popular for educational and non-commercial projects. Prof-UIS 2.23 FREEWARE, which was also released today, can be downloaded with full source code for any personal and non-commercial use for absolutely free. "The field of GUI design and development is vast on the one hand, and rapidly evolving on other. We have a lot of work to do to the rising expectations of customer satisfaction", said Vladimir Nekrachevitch. Foss Software has been successfully developing and offering custom software solutions and GUI libraries since 2000.
