Vista / Performance

First of all I would like to say that I am impressed with the set of features of the product and I am going to purchase a license.

But I am worried about the product performance on Vista computers.
I have downloaded the RibbonBar-ym.exe sample from your site it and run it on WinXP and Vista; both installed on the same computer.

On WinXP it works OK but when I run in on Vista it performs extremely slowly.
For example if I try to resize the program’s window it freezes for 3-4 seconds and the CPU usage is 100%.

My computer is: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ with 512 RAM

Thanks,
KP

You need more then 1GB of ram to work with all application not only Prof-UIS powered applications.

Windows Vista System Requierments http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx

you can see that Windows Vista Home Premium / Ultimate need 1 GB for use and this are the minimum system requirements.
windows vista with less then 1 gb ram are not realy good to work with it.

We have compared performance of the CExtRibbonBar control with the ribbon bar in Office 2007 both running on AMD 3000+ machine and on VMware guest OS running on the same machine what can be assumed as AMD 2000+ machine. In both tests two ribbons produced close results. Some features of the CExtRibbonBar control are a bit slower (gallery resizing and toolbar like button groups on the Home ribbon page), but mostly they are comparable. Did you try to run Office 2007 Word on your AMD 2500+ computer?

Thank you for prompt reply.

No, unfortunately I don’t have the Office 2007.

Is it possible that the 512 Mb for Vista may be the source of the problem?
In other words, do Vista users need 1+ GB memory in order to work comfortably with Prof-UIS powered applications?

Thanks,
KP

You can use Prof-UIS on the first Pentiums with 100Mhz 32 MB and Windows 95. Some components are fast when some components are heavy. So the CPU speed is much more important the amount of available memory. The ribbon controls are heavy enough. It’s recommended to run them on a more faster CPU than AMD 2500+.

As for Windows Vista: you need 1GB if Desktop Window Manager (DWM) is not used. You need 2GB if DWM is on.

Thank you for making this clean to me.

I plan to use the Prof-UIS for creating small shareware projects. Not all my users will have such good CPU.

I have one more question.
I plan to purchase your product on June, 16-18 (my credit card will be automatically loaded at this time).
Can I start my project with your trial version and then replace the trial version with full version?

Thanks,
KP

Yes, you can start developing your software using Prof-UIS Trial right away and then switch to the full version.
